Like many UI developers, my career began as a web designer. Though I enjoyed designing, I soon realized that this was not my true passion. As my fascination with front-end web technologies turned into an all-consuming passion, I began to find myself spending countless hours a day learning everything I could to hone my skills. Today, I specialize in coding clean, standards compliant user interfaces, with a focus on sustainability and reusability.

RealPage Inc. (Formerly Yield Technologies) 5/2012 - Present | Senior UI Developer

Worked intensively with the design and software teams to build user interface components and pages for the new RentSocial web and mobile product platforms.

Achievements

Instrumental in developing RentSocial's new property listings pinboard search, integrating front and back-end technologies to create an AJAX-driven experience.
As a means to increase revenue streams, took the lead in developing an admin allowing brokers to buy paid ad placement on nationwide property listings.
Utilized HTML5 technologies to develop a new interactive version of the RentSocial homepage as a means to create a single, more unified experience for searching, exploring and contacting prospective properties.

Restaurant.com 11/2010 - 4/2012 | Senior Front-End Developer

Worked with designers and software engineers to create front-end solutions for the company's websites. Front-end work included HTML, CSS and JavaScript development, as well as the integration of back-end code into existing and new front-end frameworks.

Achievements

Took on numerous aspects of a site re-architecture project including developing a completely new MVC3 driven UI, completely overhauled the existing core JavaScript library and CSS framework, and integrated Restaurant.com redemption sites into the new framework to create a more unified user experience.
Implemented an XML/AJAX driven feed for our site's marketing banners, thus reducing the amount of time required to update monthly marketing promotions.
Developed and implemented a JavaScript unit testing framework.

optionsXpress 2/2008 - 11/2010 | Designer / Front-End Developer

Responsible for the design and development of web related marketing projects including landing pages, email campaigns, newsletters and banner ads. Was also directly involved in the HTML and CSS development of new site pages and implementation of new JavaScript and jQuery functionality.

Achievements

Collaborated with designers to build a completely new non-member side of the optionsXpress website, including the integration of on-demand videos, new investment hubs and an array educational resources.
Led the redesign and development of an AJAX/XML driven events page, allowing users to find and register for local investment seminars and free online webinars.
Worked directly with marketing on the design and development of newsletter registration forms and integration with ExactTarget.

Maintained and updated client websites with new content and UI components. Designed and developed site templates for the company's content management system.

Alan is a beast of a developer. Seriously. The guy is a cyborg or something. He is fearless when it comes to technology. I don't think there is any problem you can throw at Alan that he can't handle. All you have to say is "Hey Alan... do you think it's possible?" His response: "Probably... just gimme a minute to figure it out". Fearless.

I also trust him implicitly to translate designs to code. What you design is what he builds. There have been times when I've walked pass his desk and I've not been able to tell whether it was the mockup or the webpage on his monitor. That's way more important and rare than it sounds, BTW.

Collaborating with Alan is a pleasure as well. He has great ideas and solutions to design problems. There are times when you only have the bandwidth to partially flesh out an idea, and Alan can grasp the concept with one discussion, then take it further if necessary. His input is always beneficial.

Alan is a huge asset to any team, and is definitely a vital part of ours.
